Referencing a traditional Iranian fire-jumping ritual associated with renewal and the arrival of spring, I reverse its meaning by leaping over fires of destruction. The sound was recorded on Nowruz, by an Iranian artist, Mohammad Ramshe, walking in Tehran. Throughout the video, the soundscape of bombings, air defense systems, and fighter jets intrudes everyday sounds of pedestrians and street cats. Within the condition of migration, an atmosphere of celebration transforms into detachment and mourning. Migration becomes a liminal space, between joy and grief, anxiety and safety.
